Professor of Sociology and International Affairs
Berna Turam
Professor Turam has an abiding interest in the interaction between Muslims and secular states. Her research explores the securitized borders between Europe and the Middle East/North Africa. Tracing the border cities from Greece to Sicily-Italy, her work analyzed pro-migrant resistance and Muslim and Black migrant activism in Southern Europe. Currently she is finalizing a book on the geopolitics of borders and the tension between securitization of migration and native-migrant solidarity in the Mediterranean.
